Stop Talking and Start Doing: 10-year-old cancer fighter Gabriella Miller Tells It Like It Is!
Thanks to the wonderful efforts of Heroes of Hope Race for Research/The Brad Kaminsky Foundation& Smashing Walnuts toward research for brain cancer, a few years ago I was introduced to a very special little girl named Gabriella Miller, who was diagnosed with DIPG, which is a highly aggressive, difficult to treat, and often terminal type of brain cancer. She was told that there were no treatments for her cancer. But she was a warrior and decided to use her remaining time to help others by creating the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act because children’s cancer research was very underfunded. She fought for all children battling cancer and in her famous interview she pleaded with adults to take action, instead of just talking about these issues. Unfortunately, she passed away before the bipartisan bill was signed into law in 2014. The original legislation allocated $126 million for a 10 year program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Why does this legislation have a “2.0” designation? Because the original program was a 10 year program, next year is the last to be appropriated. We can’t afford to lose this valuable program. The 2.0 Kids First legislation will allocate $125 million to extend the program for 5 more years. The amount is extraordinary because it will continue the program and allow it to expand and improve its research and shared data capabilities.

Opening: Hi, my name is ___________and the reason I am calling is that I want you to pass the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act 2.0 before the end of the year.
Your Story: My ___________ is a survivor of neuroblastoma, a cancer that only happens to kids. I don’t want any child or family to go through what he had to endure during his five year battle with cancer. He had to take toxic adult chemotherapy. There was not a single drug available to treat this cancer. Today, adults have over 200 drugs available to fight their cancers, while kids have had only 6 drugs developed for their unique cancers
Request: When it comes to research and drug development, kids have been last in line for too long. The original 10 year Kids First Research Program will end next year and it has been a huge success. The Kids First 2.0, bill will extend the NIH program of research and sharing data for 5 more years. We can’t afford to lose this valuable program.
Close: Thank you for all the support you have given in the past to Kids with cancer.
Video Tweets: After recording your video, and after you copy an entire tweet below and paste into your twitter, place the video link in the space below noted as “DELETE THIS AND PLACE YOUR VIDEO LINK HERE”, then press, “Send.”
